Katy Perry breaks silence on split

KATY Perry has spoken out for the first time since her divorce from Russell Brand was announced, saying her heart is happy again.

The singer has remained silent since Brand revealed he had filed for divorce after 14 months of marriage, The Daily Telegraph reported.

However, Katy has now taken to her Twitter account to thank fans for their good wishes and kindness as she deals with the split.

"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world," she tweeted on Saturday.

"You guys have made my heart happy again."

Katy, 27, went on to urge her fans to ignore speculation surrounding the breakdown of her marriage.

"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me," she tweeted. "Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family (sic)."

Earlier in the week, it was reported Perry's religious parents had suggested her daughter's divorce had been arranged by God to help boost churchgoers.

Perry and Brand have not yet publicly discussed the reasons for their split.

It has been claimed he was keen to start a family, while she was more focused on her career.

It has also been suggested ! that Bra nd, a former drug addict and womaniser, didn't approve of Perry's partying ways.

Perry is scheduled to make her first public appearance since the divorce at the People's Choice Awards on January 11.
