Singer will be heading to Las Vegas for a charity event

Katy Perry will be making her first public appearance since her divorce from Russell Brand.

Perry has been laying low since the separation, but will be keeping a commitment she made to appear the the GiveLove charity event in Las Vegas on Friday (Jan 27th).

The charity helps Haiti to develop temporary housing, as well as improved sanitation systems, according to The Huffington Post.

Perry does not plan on talking to the press or performing at the event. She will only hand a check to the charity founder, Patricia Arquette, and then give a brief speech.

The 27-year-old singer backed out of the People's Choice Awards this year as it came just a few days after Brand filed for divorce. Perry won five of the seven awards that she had been nominated for.

Perry has still continued on with her tour, trying to keep things together during this difficult time.

Celebs.gather.com noted that Brand has been flaunting the fact that he is now single. There have even been reports that he has began dating another woman.

The divorce came after only one year of marriage. The couple reportedly fought all the time and one massive fight finally lead to the separation. It has been suggested that the couple had different views on they way they wanted to live life. Perry and her family's strong religious beliefs were also speculated as being a problem in their marriage.

Perry has recently unfollowed Brand on Twitter and they two have been seen without their wedding rings.
