Absent Katy Perry cleans up at the People's Choice Awards

Had Katy Perry attended the People's Choice Awards last night, she would have enjoyed five victory laps to the podium. But Perry wasn't the only absentee to be honored at the awards show where winners are determined by online votes.

Kaley Cuoco of "The Big Bang Theory" hosted the 38th annual People's Choice Awards show last night in Los Angeles, presiding over performances by Demi Lovato and Faith Hill. But in an interesting twist, many of the night's awards went to people who weren't there.

Robert Pattinson and Betty White sat next to each other at the People's Choice Awards.

Perry, who pulled out of the event on Monday -- tweeting cryptically, "unfortunately I will not be able to attend" -- won in five of the seven categories in which she was nominated. She won for Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Tour Headliner, Video of the Year, and Song of the Year. In addition, she also was proclaimed Favorite TV Guest Star for her cameo role on the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother."

While she was not there to accept her statues in person, Perry did take to Twitter to show her appreciation.

"THANK U to every1 who voted for me for the @peopleschoice tonight!" she tweeted. "We won so many! Now I need to get more books[helves] 2 successfully display them!"

The second biggest winner of the night was the movie "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," which took home four of the major movie awards. However, none of the movie's stars were on hand to accept the awards on behalf of the final "Har! ry Potte r" film.

While Johnny Depp was also not on hand to accept his two awards, for Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Animated Movie Voice (a category in which he beat Perry), Emma Stone was there to ascend to the podium and give a speech after winning Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Comedic Movie Actress. Stone wore an edgy in a green tuxedo jacket, and brought her mom as her date rather than boyfriend Andrew Garfield.

"I moved to LA eight years ago this week with my mom, who's right there," Stone said. "It is so insane to be standing up here right now. It is hard to describe to you."

Betty White, whose sitcom "Hot in Cleveland" won for Favorite Cable TV Comedy, also made it to the event. She sat next to Robert Pattinson as his stand-in date for Kristen Stewart. Pattison attended the show to accept the Favorite Drama Movie award for "Water for Elephants."

Another absentee winner for the night was Kim Kardashian, who like Perry may have stayed away because of a recent high-profile split. Kardashian picked up the award for Favorite TV Celebreality Star, despite a recent backlash after she filed for divorce for NBA star Kris Humphries. Kardashian did, however, tweet a thank you to fans.

She wrote, "Thank you to everyone who voted for me tonight for the People's Choice Awards! It means the world to me! xoxo."

Morgan Freeman, Nina Dobrev, Neil Patrick Harris, Lea Michele, Ellen DeGeneres, Chloe Moretz, Demi Lovato, Adam Sandler, Nathan Fillion, and Maroon 5 were on hand to accept their awards for the night. Meanwhile Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Jimmy Fallon, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift were honored in absentia.
