Katy Perry Unveils Fairy-Tale Inspired 'Wide Awake' Promo

Katy Perry has premiered the video for her new single, Wide Awake - which has been inspired by the classic Lewis Carroll novel, Through The Looking Glass.

The promo opens with K-Pez wrapping production on her earlier Snoop Dogg collaboration, California Gurls, where she retreats to her dressing room and removes her candy-coloured wig.

She is suddenly transported through the mirror into a sort of gothic fairy-tale, where she's left to navigate a dizzying maze alongside her younger self.

The 27-year old is then seen trapped inside a labyrinth, as she discovers her lost innocence in the form of a young girl.

After being hounded by hellish paparazzi, Perry finds her Prince Charming, who tellingly crosses his fingers behind his back before going in for a kiss. And even more tellingly, Katy reaches back and decks him.

It's a bit of a departure for the Part Of Me songstress, but not a surprising one considering the year she's had, including her divorce from comedian Russell Brand, whom she was married to for more than a year.

Speaking of Wide Awake, the 27-year old told MTV News: "Well, this song, I have a lot of different emotions and feelings in all of my songs. This song in particular is a dose of reality. It's kind of like coming down from a high.

"You've been on cloud nine for so long, and it can't always be so sweet and sometimes you need to realize that, and you have to pick yourself up and move forward and face th! e facts of life and know that this is just a lesson you learn and you're stronger because of it."

Wide Awake is the final chapter of the fairy-tale that was Katy's Teenage Dream years, and is due for release in the UK on 2nd July.
