Katy Perry to play Macy's '4th of July Fireworks Spectacular'

Katy Perry has been confirmed as a performer at Macy's annual 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular.

Country star Kenny Chesney will also play at the annual Independence Day celebrations in New York City, which will be broadcast on NBC.

"NBC is thrilled to have Katy Perry and Kenny Chesney join us in celebrating America's 'birthday'," senior NBC executive Doug Vaughan said in a statement.

"These stars' powerful voices and stage presence will serve as the perfect complement to Macy's captivating visual artistry."

The 25-minute display over the Hudson River will feature 40,000 fireworks, and will be choreographed to a specially-commissioned score featuring a mix of patriotic songs and pop standards.

Previous Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular performers have included Beyonc and Justin Bieber.

The Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular will air live on Wednesday, July 4 at 9/8c on NBC.
