Katy Perry: 'Russell Brand divorce was super-valuable lesson'

Katy Perry has described her failed marriage to Russell Brand as a "super-valuable... lesson".

The 'Wide Awake' singer said that she has learnt a lot and gathered "really good material" for her music since filing for divorce from the comedian in December.

"Actually [the marriage is] really a lesson learned and it's super-valuable," she told Mario Lopez on Extra. "I could not buy this lesson.

"And I apply it to my life, I learn and a lot of the time, I get really good material for my songs."

Perry, who is currently dating Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd, also insisted that she could see herself getting married again.

"I don't rule out the idea, of course not," she said. "I will always let love lead the way."

Perry has explained that she included her divorce from Brand in new film Part of Me because she didn't want to be fake.

She also revealed that she used to "smack [her]self across the face" backstage at concerts to stave off tears over the break-up.
