Katy Perry reveals in new interview that she was almost cast in The Help
Singer Katy Perry will be making the jump to film in July when her first concert film, Part of Me, is released, but she could have made that transition sooner. In a new interview, the Part of Me singer revealed that she was actually cast in the Oscar-nominated The Help.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Perry revealed that she had a small part in the film. The magazine asked Perry if she would like to get into acting soon and she said that she would love to.
There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help just a small part, I wasn't going to be Emma Stone or anything, she said, adding that a scheduling conflict kept her from taking the part. ...[T]he shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record. And I was upset about that; I knew it was going to be an important film.
She noted that her first feature film acting role does not necessarily have to be a drama, but she really wanted to do something that would bring her skills attention. I do want to do something that makes a strong impression. You don't really get off the hook being a musician first....I feel like the stakes are really high, she said.
Perry has slowly been working her way into the acting business, notes The Huffington Post. She started off by doing a voice role in the box office hit, The Smurfs, and has also guest starred on episodes of CBSs How I Met Your Mother and Foxs Raising Hope. She also hosted an episode of Satu! rday Nig ht Live.
Perrys Part of Me combines concert footage with the story of her road to success. The film hits theaters on July 5 in 3D. You can watch the trailer below:
The Help was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture. Octavia Spencer won for her supporting role. It certainly would have been interesting to see how Perry would have fit in the film. She definitely would not be allowed to have blue hair in a 1960s era drama.
