The purple-haired singer donned camouflage shorts and hired an army of foxy dancing soldiers for her explosive performance on American Idol.

Katy also wore a pair of knee pads, boots and fishnet tights as she belted out Part Of Me on the TV talent show.

Aptly, Idol finalist Jessica Sanchezs soldier dad whos being deployed overseas for the third time was in the audience.

But its not known whether Katys new fella, Florence & The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd, was watching on.

The couple havent wasted any time getting to know each other.

Katy has convinced Rob to extend his stay in LA after the Coachella festival so she can introduce him to her pals.

Its also all happening on the career front for the singer as she prepares to release her fly-on-the-wall tour documentary Part Of Me 3D.

Cameras followed Katy in the lead-up to her high-profile split with Russell Brand last year.

A source said: Theres loads of stuff in there that relates to her life with Russell and shes really not comfortable about it all going in.

In the film, Katy breaks down backstage as her marriage to British comic Russell comes crashing to an end.

She also reveals her struggle to carve o! ut a car eer in music, with the singer admitting: I was going through some depressing, dark times. But its a journey and I learned so much from that journey.

I feel like a stronger, better person because of it.
