The couple started dating earlier this summer and were spotted out on a string of loved up dates. But it all came to an end when John allegedly dumped the 'Firework' star by email.
A source told the National Enquirer: He dumped her over email. She was furious and really hurt.
"She was into him, but he wasnt feeling it.
Clearly though the split didn't last long as the couple were spotted out last week and partied together after Katy had appeared at the MTV VMAs in Los Angeles last Thursday. (Sept 6)
While reports alleged it was Katy that begged Mayer to take her back, it appears it was the womanising star, who has previously dated Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston who changed his mind.
A source told Now magazine: He begged for another chance, not the other way round.
Apparently the star took John back despite some pretty hurtful comments he made following their break up. The source claimed: As if Katy would chase him after he told his mates he wasn't attracted to her and thought she was fat!
Katy joined John in Las Vegas over the weekend and was spotted leaving strip club Spearmint Rhino at 5am, with the 'Wonderland' star even inviting Katy to an upcoming concert.

But Katy's friends are said to be annoyed the couple are back together and don't trust Mayer.
Everyone's upset that she agreed to another date, the source claimed. She says it's strictly booty calls only, but it's not really in her nature.
John is known for 'loving and leaving' women, with jilted Taylor Swift even writing a song about her heartbreak and fear Katy is going the same way.
He's playing her and we all just wish she'd see him for what he is, the source added.
