It feels like just yesterday that the odd couple fell in love, quickly became engaged, married in India and became the subject of many tabloid rumors the last of which turned out to be true. Lets take a look back at the highlights (and low points) of their relationship.

September 2009: Brand and Perry began dating after they hit it off during rehearsals for the MTV Video Music Awards. They had met for the first time in 2008 on the set of Get Him to the Greek, while Perry was still attached to Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy.

From the first date, I changed, Brand wrote in his 2010 book, My Booky Wook 2. No more women. Well, actually, thousands of women. I wake up to a different one each day, theyre all her. ... She chose me, bottled me and cuffed me. And now this is my life, my girl, this beautiful woman.

September 2010: Perry celebrated her bachelorette party in Las Vegas with Rihanna and the cast of Cirque de Soleils Ka.

October 2010: A little over a year after their romance began, Brand and Perry wed at a tiger sanctuary in India.

February 2011: Perry shared video from her wedding ceremony at the Grammys while she performed a medley of songs, including one she wrote for Brand (Not Like the Movies.)

The singer later told Vanity Fair she showed the clips because I felt the moment was right and not forced. Russell and I had time to savor our moment privately first and then share it with people when we were ready, and not for a paycheck. I loved the idea, because I thought it was beautiful and artistically accompanied the song I wrote for him. Plus, it was Valentines eve!

During that month, In Touch ran a story claiming the couple was in counseling and fighting to save their marriage.

May 2011: Brand was deported from Japan after he traveled to the country to see his wife perform. She tweeted, So...my husband just got! deporte d from Japan. I am so. sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place #tokyodreamscrushed.

July 2011: Star Magazine reported that Perry and Brand were living separate lives and sources feared the marriage may not last a year.

Perry denied the report, tweeting, Just cause we dont flaunt our relationship doesnt mean theres something wrong w/ it. Privacy is our luxury. #tabloidsrtrash #gossipisgross.

August 2011: Star followed up that claim with new suggestions that the marriage wouldnt work because the couple spent too much time together.

November 2011: In Touch reported that Brand was getting cozy with a female friend, adding that a split is inevitable for the newlyweds.

Meanwhile, rumors circulated that Perry was expecting after her mid-section appeared slightly bloated during the American Music Awards. Her response? I like In-N-Out Burger and Taco Bell and if you want to make that pregnant thats your problem.

December 2011: Brand appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he announced that his marriage to Perry was A-OK: Im married to Katy perpetually. Until death do us part was the pledge. Im still alive.

Perry hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time. While she did an impression of her husband in one of the promos, Brand did not make a cameo in the actual show.

Later that month, reports surfaced that the two spent Christmas apart. They were soon photographed without their wedding rings.

On the penultimate day of December, Brand announced the couples plans to divorce.
