One year on: Katy Perry and Russell Brands 10 biggest moments since their dramatic split

This time last year, the whole world (well, those on Twitter), were making noises like eh?, wha-? and nooooo after the news that Katy Perry and Russell Brand had split up broke online.

The pair got engaged in India in December 2009, married in October 2010 (in the same place in India, the romantics) and lived (mostly apart while Katy was on tour) in wedded bliss for a grand total of 14 months before Russell filed for divorce on December 30 2011.

This year, Katy and Russell settled on financial issues (the comedian didnt want any of the singers money) and were granted a divorce in July. But thats not all they did oh no they did LOADS of other stuff.

We felt actual emotions when these two split uo - we thought they were perfect!

And given that theyve been so busy creating headlines, weve decided to filter through all the drama of the last twelve months and put together their top 10 moments for you to enjoy well count them down because were dramatic like that.

10. Forget your average break-over (I needed change so, look, I got a fringe and some leather trousers!) Katys hair went through the whole colour chart from blonde to pink to blue to black to purple to weird ginger! See the whole rainbow look below its quite the beautiful sight.

9. Speaking of makeovers, Russell went through quite the transformation when he took up yoga in January. And we mean really took up yoga. Sporting a ridiculous Zen new look, Russell wasnt snapped without a yoga mat and a bendy new girlfriend for at least six months. Using the fad (which seems to have ended now see number two) as a means to get over Katy immediately after their split, the comedian was seen in a new pair of leg warmers with a beautiful, nameless brunette on his arm in LA every day.

8. Katy hinted about her feelings towards the split for the first time when she released emotional track Part Of Me at the end of March, with lyrics in the song including You can keep the diamond ring, it dont mean nothing anyway, Because you chewed me up and spit me out and You ripped me off, your love was cheap. She later claimed that the song wasnt about Russell (even though we all knew it was).

7. Katy Perry starts kissing people again! Three months after her split from Russell, Katy started hanging out with gorgeous French supermodel Baptiste Giabiconiin Paris. While they were never snapped doing anything untoward, Katy visited the model a number of times and, well, look at him. But after apparently splitting up with the hottie after four weeks, Katy was snapped having a proper snog with Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd at the end of April. It was the first time shed been seen properly moving on from Russell, with her arms wrapped around Robs neck as she went in for the kill. Later on in the year, Katy went on to kiss the biggest hunk in, like, the entire universe giving Harry Styles (and the rest of One Direction) a smacker on stage at the MTV awards.

6. Given that he couldnt put his feelings in a song, Russell opened up about his split from Katy on a live radio show with Howard Stern in the US. Speaking in July, Russell explained: Before we got married, I just thought, 'I've got to marry her, I just love her so much. And then we got married and I thought, 'Okay, this isn't really working out. It was a lovely relationship. It mostly didn't work for practical reasons. Now we've both gone our separate ways. I don't want to be too glib. She'll read about this and she'll be sad and I don't want that. I don't want anything to hurt her. She's younger than me, she's a young woman and shes beautiful and she's sensitive and I care about her deeply.

He then added: She was very willing to do wheelchair porn. That woman spent ninety percent of our marriage in a little electric wheel chair.

Just as we were starting to get a bit emotional there. Thanks, Russ... we think.

5. The world finally got an insight into Katys pain when she released 3D movie Part Of Me in July, with the singer clearly heartbroken and crumbling before the audiences eyes. In some scenes, Katy was seen doubled over in pain as she sobbed and sobbed, seconds before being hoisted onto the stage. In the middle of her world tour, Katy is seen struggling to book in visits to see Russell and falling apart when their relationship starts to break down. With the singer appearing to move on so quickly after the divorce was announced, it was a big shock to discover quite how much she actually suffered following the break up.

4. Katy officially moved on when she started dating John Mayer at the beginning of September. The pair had been friends for a while moving in similar, arty circles but took their relationship to the next level after a series of dates in LA. Despite rumours that theyve split up a few times, Katy and John have been pictured together all over the place during the last month even hitting the red carpet together in mi! d-Decembe! r suggesting it could be pretty serious. Guarded after her split from Russell, however, Katy has refused to talk about John in any way.

3. The first time Katy and Russell bumped into each other following their split and it was in front of hundreds of cameras for two hours during a basketball game in LA! What could have been an incredibly awkward situation was made much easier by the fact that Katy had decided to take her dad to the match rather than John at the last minute and Russell went along with a child. What also helped was that David Beckham was there, so Russell managed to avoid Katy at the break by chatting to his pal Becks. We did enjoy the pair of them looking EVERYWHERE but each other though cracking photos.

This may or may not have been a gesture for Russell.

2. While Katy went down the sad break up route, with new hair, new lyrics and random snogs, Russell went down an angrier road, losing his rag with photographers and being generally unruly. In March, Russell was handed himself into the police after allegedly grabbing a photographers iPhone and hurling it through a law firms window. He tweeted after the incident: Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory. After paying 3000 in bail, the law firm complained of criminal damage and in July, Russell agreed to pay a 300 bill and do 20 hours of community service.

1. And finally, the big drama of the year: Russell Brand and Geri Halliwell!! When we first started seeing tweets about this relationship, we admit, we refused to believe it. Given h! ow much R! ussell used to gush about fancying the pants off of Geri before he met Katy, we can only imagine how chuffed he must have been when he finally tapped Ginger Spice. The pair had a very intense if not somewhat brief fling at the end of August, with Russell being snapped outside her house a number of times and Geri hinting that she was enjoying a whirlwind romance in a new interview. Can you IMAGINE what these two must have been like together? It doesnt get much more excitable and high energy than that and the yoga positions! Oh the yoga positions. Speaking about whether Geri is ginger all over during a gig, Russell said: Shes not got hair on her back. Shes not like an orange Yeti. Shes not like some hairy Jaffa Cake bear. Shes still a person, shes still an actual person. And he added: Look, give me a year and Ill turn it into good material for you. Sadly, Russell wont have all that much material a few weeks after conquering his teenage crush, Russell lost interest with Geri and started dating another mystery brunette. Well, it was exciting (if not tiring to think about) while it lasted.
