Fun., Katy Perry land in DJ Earworm's 2012 mashup

After spending the better part of 2012 taking over the radio, it's fitting that artists like Fun., Katy Perry and Ke$ha are featured on DJ Earworm's annual year-end mashup.

"United State of Pop 2012 (Shine Brighter)" incorporates themes like darkness, revelation and transformation, Earworm, whose real name is Jordan Roseman, told CNN via email.

"I looked through all the lyrics to find what common elements there might have been. ... These three concepts more or less became the verse/pre-chorus/chorus of the song," he wrote.

Many of the songs included, from Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" to Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," were plucked from Billboard's Hot 100.

"There are a number of songs that almost made it in," Earworm added. "It would have been nice to include 'Titanium,' 'Where Have You Been,' 'Take Care' -- but I went with my stats."
