Katy Perry to dazzle at IPL opening ceremony in Chennai

Pop sensation Katy Perry will perform at the opening of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in southern Chennai on April 3, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said.

"The verve and originality of her (Perry's) music matches that of the competition and we look forward to an inspired performance from her," The News quoted IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla, as saying in a statement.

The BCCI, which owns and organises the annual tournament, promised an "unforgettable" start to the fifth edition of the league, with Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and leading actress Priyanka Chopra also set to appear.

Twenty-seven-year-old Perry made waves in India two years ago for her extravagant Hindu wedding to British comic Brand in Jaipur.he couple split in December last year.

Perry is best known for hit songs, "Teenage Dream," California Gurls," and "I Kissed a Girl."

Her debut album "One of the Boys" garnered two Grammy nominations, while her second single "Teenage Dream" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

The album was picked as International Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2011. (ANI)
