MANILA, Philippines Pop star Katy Perrys affinity to the country apparently doesnt just solely rest on her thousands of fans here but in Filipino creations as well.
The Firework singer was seen wearing a chic and chunky ring by Filipino jewelry designer Joyce Makitalo at the 2012 Inaugural National Football League Honors and pre-Super Bowl XLVI party in Indianapolis last Feb. 4. Perry even tweeted a photo of what she described as her fun new ring! on Feb. 3.
The glitzy stunner, called a Shrine Hand Ring, is part of Makitalos Non-Saint Collection. A musicfashionland.com report described the piece as a reflection of the awe and splendor of the church paraphernalia the opulence and the gothic feel of which Joyce has always been fascinated with.
Makitalo is ecstatic over seeing her work in Perrys finger. She, however, credits her feat to pure luck.
Still stunned! @loraleesoong (her client) just gifted Katy Perry w/ the Shrine Handring after Katy saw her wearing my other ring and loved it! Makitalo tweeted on Feb. 6.
Her bold, raw and almost talismanic pieces are distinguished by rough, irregular-cut, chunky semi-precious stone jewelry which is set in brass and precious metal, according to Makitalos website. These are inspired by past eras and the concept of the future.
Makitalos creations have been seen on the pages of international publications such as US Vogue, Oprah, and Marie Claire. Aside from five shops and a show room all located in Makati! , Makita los pieces will soon be marketed in Australia and New Zealand by One Grange Road, a designer jewellery, accessories and homewares online boutique.
Prior, Perrywho held a concert in the country last monthalso donned creations by Dubai-based Filipino designer Furne One.
Meanwhile, an avid supporter of Filipino-American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars seemed to have caused quite a stir online after posting a call for prayers for Visayas, which was ravaged by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake last Feb. 6
Pray for the Philippines! especially on Visayas who were struck by an #earthquake earlier, user @BruroMars tweeted Monday. Over 3,100 individuals re-tweeted the post. Some, apparently touched by the gesture, thanked "Bruno" for his concern.
Mars, or Peter Hernandez in real life, is behind the best-selling hits, Just The Way You Are, Grenade, and It Will Rain.
