Katy Perry Dishes On New 'Sims' Game, Explains Fiery Grammys Performance: I Wrote 'Part Of Me' 'Two Years Ago'

When Katy Perry took to the stage to her perform her latest single, "Part of Me," at the Grammys earlier this month, fans were sure the new song had been written in light of her impending divorce from Russell Brand.

With a fiery stage and lyrics including, "You can keep the diamond ring - it don't mean nothing anyway," the association seemed obvious. However, in her first interview since the split, Katy explained the actual meaning behind the song to Access Hollywood.

"I wrote 'Part of Me' two years ago and I always knew that 'Part of Me' was a special song," the superstar told Access in an exclusive interview in Beverly Hills last week. "It feels like my life plays out with these songs. I feel like I'm in some kind of weird 'Truman Show' where I'm like, 'Why is this single appropriate now and it wouldn't have been appropriate then?' It's just so crazy."

Acknowledging the lyrical poignancy and uncanny timing "Part of Me" holds (as the first single since announcing her split), it's clear the only thing blue about Katy currently is her hair, as she embraces the irony.

"I guess the universe is kind of -- we're kind of like, dancing together in some weird way," she told Access. "Does that make sense or am I being to hippie?"

Adding, "I think it's really important for me to write songs that are still honest and relatable because that's what everyone else is going through."

And her KatyCats agree! Just one week after her fiery Grammy performance, the single girl anthem debuted at the top of the singles chart.

"I'm completely grateful because I know that not everything will always be this way," she told Access of "Part of Me's" instant success. "Maybe if I continue to make sure I'm doing everything with the right motives, then hopefully, chromatically it will go well. But I have to live it up while I'm still young -- while I'm 27!"

And adding to her music, fragrance and acting ambitions, behold Katy the gamer, with the soon-to-be-released collaboration with EA's hugely successful game, "The Sims 3 Showtime Katy Perry Collector's Edition."

In the game, players can create their own Katy-themed rock-star reality.

"Well, if you don't like sweets, this may not be your thing," she said. "But, you know, it's larger than life and it's pure fun and that's kind of how I roll in real life too."
