Katy Perry Has Great Taste in Music

(Getty)While we may occasionally question the items Katy Perry chooses to bedazzle and affix to her bosom, the woman actually has pretty solid decision-making skills when it comes to music. Despite a rigorous touring schedule, she's made Coachella a priority for the past couple of years, and has always introduces her Twitter followers to up-and-coming artists whenever she can. A few days ago, she made it even easier for her fans to check out her favorite songs by assembling and sharing a public playlist on Spotify.

While there are a couple of songs that have been around forever like M83's "Midnight City," or Passion Pit's "Take a Walk," for example most of Katy's picks are pretty fresh cuts. Here are some details on a couple of the lesser-known artists on Perry's radar.

JJAMZChances are you've heard "Heartbeat," the brilliant pop track that gained massive exposure when it soundtracked the "New MySpace" marketing spot earlier this year. It's a burst of pop bliss, even if the lyrics are wistful and the video's hilariously horrific the band is big on subversion. Expect to hear her everywhere in a matter on months.Purity RingCanadian duo Purity Ring has a reputation for ethereal songs that are alternately playful and haunting, but always beautifully odd. Singer Megan James pulls many of her lyrics directly from her personal journals, offering an intimacy that's occasionally uncomfortable. Those with poppier sensibilities may prefer the band's single "Fineshrine."HAIMFirst off: The band name has nothing to do with The Coreys sisters Danielle, Este, and Alana Haim are too young to have experienced that entire phenomenon. Most of the band's childhood influences are firmly rooted in the '90s, when they grew up playing in Rockinhaim, a family band, together with their parents.
