Katy Perry may play Marilyn Monroe on Broadway

Michelle Williams' movie My Week WithMarilyn just hit theaters here inTampa Bay, but producer Harvey Weinstein says there are already plans to bring the Marilyn Monroe yarn to Broadway, possibly starring Katy Perry. There are so many boldface names in that opening sentence, we need to stop and catch our breath.

Whew, okay. Weinstein tells E! he's considering the singer for a musical version of the story, which follows Marilyn and an assistant on a movie set inEngland way back when. "If the movie works, I would try to make it a musical and I would go to Katy first," Weinstein said. "I think she can play Marilyn on the Broadway stage ... I think she would be amazing."

As evidence of Perry's potential,Harvey cites the fact that a remix of her song The One That Got Away was pretty popular in the trailer for the movie (watch it above). "Katy posted about it on her Twitter and Facebook and the next thing you know 250,000 people have downloaded the trailer in an hour," Weinstein told E!. Well, that certainly translates to Broadway success. He'd better be sure to stay away from all those YouTube clips of Perry getting caught faking her flute skills.
