Katy Perry's boyfriend John Mayer, 35, has splashed out on a 35k ruby ring for her.

But there is no talk of a wedding just yet - the sparkler is just a 'commitment ring', according to sources.

'He's trying so hard to prove that his bad behaviour towards women has changed now,' a source says.

'He saw the ring and thought it was a perfect gift for Valentine's Day.

'She loved it. There's no way she's ready to get married yet so a commitment ring is perfect.'

A good job too - Katy, 28, only split from husband Russell Brand in December 2011.
