Did John Mayer Turn Katy Perry Into A Miguel Fan?
Miguel is one of the few acts up for multiple awards on Sunday night's (February 10) 55th annual Grammy Awards, but if one pop superstar has her way, the suave R&B crooner will sweep the entire competition and take home everything.
At Clive Davis' famed pre-Grammy party Saturday night, MTV News' own Sway Calloway introduced Miguel and Katy Perry to one another on the red carpet, and learned that John Mayer's musical tastes may be rubbing off on the pop star.
"Oh my God, Miguel. I am such a fan of you," Perry gushed as she shared a kiss on the cheek with the singer. "I hope you win everything," she added, before revealing whom she has to thank for letting her into his smooth breakout hit "Adorn." "I love your song so much. My boyfriend and I listen to it all the time. He actually turned me on to it, and that song turns me on."
Asked how he feels that his music is still making its way to new ears, Miguel remained humble, saying, "I think that's the cool part about it, though. There's still so many people to discover the music and it gives us something to reach for."
Miguel is in for quite a whirlwind evening. Not only is he up for five nominations, including Song of the Year, but the neo-soul singer is scheduled to take the Staples Center stage alongside Wiz Khalifa for a performance. No official word on the choice of song, but it'd only make sense for the duo to churn out Khalifa's remix of the nominated tune.
Miguel is keeping mum on details of his performance, but fans can expect it to be unlike anything they've ever seen from the singer. "It's gonna be different; expect it to be different," Miguel told MTV News. "I can't tell you [specifics]; I don't want to spoil the moment, but it's going to be a lot of fun."
