Tuned In: Katy Perry Is No Miley Cyrus
Though Part of Me only cost $12 million to make, the film's $7.2 million opening weekend is still disappointing. Just three years ago, The Jonas Brothers were practically labeled has-beens when their concert film only made $12.5 million in its first week. Miley Cyrus remains the queen of the concert movie thanks to a bewigged creature named Hannah Montana: She pulled in $31 million in 2008. Justin Bieber's Never Say Never, meanwhile, raked in $29.5 million as fans challenged each other to watch it on repeat.
Perry's box office bid was likely hindered in part because she's a grown woman, and parents are generally less comfortable letting their children go see films about women who shoot whipped cream out of their undergarments than, say, Justin Bieber.
Also, if you are one of those kids who watches Never Say Never at home and cries, Justin Bieber is totally laughing at you on the inside. He recently retweeted: Swedish House Mafia's gig at Dublin's Phoenix Park got a little out of hand on Saturday. According to BBC News, a 23-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed four concert-goers. A brawl involving broken bottles and knives led to a number of other injuries, with one victim in critical condition. Also, a 20-year-old man died at the show of a suspected drug overdose.
Unfortunately, Swedish House Mafia does not yet seem aware of the tragedy at the performance. Afterwards, a tweet from the trio's official Twitter account read, "Thanks for a great night dubliners!"
Rumor has it Adam Lambert may take a judge's seat on American Idol should Jenny from the block bounce on the coming season. Honestly, he'd have more interesting outfits and maybe even better makeup.
New Destiny's Child albums on the way! But they're, uh, old.
Samantha Ronson is the latest per! son to u se Paris Hilton as a punching bag. Though Ronson has been accused of being the ultimate in "press play" DJs, she is still an authority on what flies in the electronic music world, apparently.
Ronson griped to TMZ, "It's like, c'mon man. She's tried everything now. Just put some quality behind the sh*t that you do. Put some effort into it."
"If you're just like, oh I want to figure out how I can make more money this week, it insults the people that work really hard at it," Ronson added.
Let us not forget that earlier this year, after Ronson rambled her way through a song called "Summer of Sam" on Live with Kelly!, she whined on her official website, "i know it's really hard for people to restrain themselves from expressing their opinions, but i wonder if they know how hurtful the things they say can be? i also know that people like to put each other in a box and have a hard time when said box no longer fits the occupant. however, the negative reaction makes no sense to me. i'm pretty certain that I'm not the only one who has more than one goal or love or desire, so why is it so hard for others to just live and let live?"Pot, kettle, etc.
