Adele has topped the nominees for the American Music Awards 2011.

The 'Someone Like You' singer earned four nods for 'Artist of the Year', 'Favourite Female Artist in Pop/Rock', 'Favourite Album in Pop/Rock' and 'Favourite Artist in Adult Contemporary'.

She was followed by Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and The Band Perry, each of whom received three nominations apiece.

Meanwhile, Beyonc, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Jason Aldean, Kanye West, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and Pitbull each earned two nods respectively.

The nominees for the awards show were announced this morning at the J.W. Marriott in Los Angeles.

Katy Perry and Pitbull were confirmed as performers for the show. Additional acts are expected to be revealed in the near future.

Adele recently cancelled a ten-date US tour due to illness.

She has since claimed that her smoking habit is not to blame for her laryngitis, insisting that talking is destroying her voice instead.

Winners will be determined by online voting. The show is slated to air live from the Nokia Theatre on Sunday, November 20 at 8/7c on ABC.
